Why is the miniature version of something so irresistible? The tiny meals crafted by artist Jessica Hlavac may not be edible, but we can't help wanting one all the same.

The pieces, made from polymer clay, pastels and varnish, are small enough to fit on a quarter, yet manage to perfectly capture the full-size originals. In an interview with the website Crushable, Hlavac discussed the appeal of miniatures:
"I never had a dollhouse, but growing up there was a dollhouse supply store in town, and I remember really liking the little mundane things, like tiny dish washing detergent, or little soda cans. There is something exciting about seeing an everyday object, which is inherently comforting, in a new perspective. It makes them wake up for a second, like a magic trick."
She documents her mini meals on her blog I'm So Tiny, and sells prints through her Etsy store. She also recently came out with a 2011 calendar, so you can enjoy plates of tiny food all year long — no miniature utensils required. (Although those would be just as irresistible.)
